Mid-Year Check In - Lead Star
written by: Courtney Lynch

Can you believe 2026 is halfway done!?! Whether it’s felt fast or slow, the mid-year mark isn’t just a calendar milestone; it’s a leadership tool. Intentional action is a key part of leadership effectiveness. The best leaders don’t wait for year-end to assess progress; they calibrate early and often.

I encourage you to take a brief pause in the coming days and check in on how your year is going. It’s often easy to drift into reactive mode. To avoid autopiloting the year, it’s important to recognize that your calendar, your energy, and your attention are choices, not defaults. Talented leaders don’t just respond to their year, they author it.

Here are questions to guide your reflection:

  • What did I commit to in January that I’ve quietly abandoned?
  • As I look back on the last six months, what result am I most proud of? What made it possible?
  • Who on my team has grown this year, and what role did I play in that?
  • What am I spending time on that doesn’t reflect my priorities?
  • What do I want to achieve, discover, and let go of before December?

As you check in on your year, embrace the clarity it offers. Don’t feel like you need to “catch up” or hurry through the next six months to get everything done. Instead, choose your top three priorities for H2 and protect them. Work to identify the small, daily shifts and adjustments that will keep you on track to a joyful and productive 2026.

And keep these core themes in mind:

  • Progress vs. busyness. One of the hardest leadership truths is that effort and results aren’t the same thing. If you’ve been busy but not productive toward what matters most, adjust to refocus.
  • It takes courage to course correct. Adjusting isn’t failure, it’s wisdom. Naming what isn’t working, and choosing differently, is a sign of strength.
  • Self-awareness is a differentiator. The ability to see yourself clearly — your wins, your drift, your blind spots — is what separates good leaders from great ones.

Second-half momentum doesn’t happen by accident. It’s created by leaders who choose clarity over comfort and then take action on their intentions. Here’s to making 2026 all that you want it to be.
