How Self-Awareness Affects Your Leadership Success

Patrick Nelson, September 5, 2017

Your capacity for self-awareness increases your ability to influence outcomes and inspire others. Self-awareness allows you to both recognize your strengths and identify potential blind spots. Here are two things you can start doing now to increase your self-awareness as a leader:

  1. Informally ask others for their feedback. By being open to constructive criticism, you give yourself the chance to see how others view you.
  2. Schedule periods of reflection. Intentionally schedule time to reflect on your role in a task or situation. Consider what you did well, what could be improved, and what you will do next time.
